Anxiety Disorders Program
The Anxiety Disorders Program at Remuda Ranch

Today, four to five million children and adolescents struggle with anxiety disorders. At Remuda, we know how prevalent these disorders are because 2,300 of our young patients have entered treatment with an anxiety disorder. We have had great success in treating their anxiety issues.

Now, by utilizing proven treatment strategies, we can provide intensive care to those with anxiety disorders. Our new inpatient program is designed to treat adolescent girls and children suffering from:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Panic Disorder (with or without Agoraphobia)
  • Specific Phobia
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Separation Anxiety Disorder
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Anxiety Disorder NOS
  • OCD Spectrum Disorders, such as Body Dysmorphic Disorder or Trichotillomania

Program Components

Inpatient Program for Anxiety Disorders
Real and lasting change takes time, so the minimum stay is 60 days. We believe this time is required to stop negative behaviors, address critical issues, and help patients and their families. All therapies occur within a cognitive behavioral framework, are based on Biblical Christianity and include:

  • Exposure with Response Prevention Therapy
  • Didactic Presentations
  • Skills Groups
  • Equine and Canine Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Challenge Course and Recreation Groups
  • Movement and Relaxation Therapy
  • Daily Chapels, providing non-denominational Biblical teachings
  • Christian Growth Groups

Family Involvement

Parents are encouraged to meet their daughter’s treatment team at admission. This helps our professionals gain understanding of family issues and possible familial background of the disorder. During her stay, parents participate in weekly therapeutic telephone sessions with their daughter and her therapist. Half-way through treatment, the entire family meets at Remuda for two to three days of education, process groups, and counseling.

Academic Services

To ensure ongoing education, each patient meets regularly with one of our Education Coordinators. This coordinator remains in touch with the girl’s school. Together, they plan and complete her individualized curriculum.

Relapse Prevention & Aftercare

Classes are held to help patients identify and avoid relapse. Remuda’s relapse prevention specialists assist each resident in creating her own aftercare plan. Follow-up calls are also made for two years.

Professional Care

Our patients receive the highest level of care from a specialized professional team, which includes:

  • Psychiatric Care Provider: Each patient meets daily with her psychiatric provider, who offers oversight and monitors medications.
  • Psychologist: Each patient undergoes psychometric testing and diagnostic evaluation, which assists her team with treatment planning and group therapy. Three to four hours of exposure with response prevention therapy occurs each day, a group overseen by a psychologist specializing in anxiety disorders.
  • Masters Level Therapist: Each patient meets with her therapist both one-on-one and in group sessions.
  • Primary Care Provider & Registered Dietitian: Each patient is assessed by both professionals upon admission; they remain available to her for additional follow up as needed throughout treatment.
  • Nursing Team: Each patient is monitored 24 hours a day by a team of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Mental Health Technicians.
